Multi-Page Website vs Single-Page Website
Which Is Right for Your Small Business?
I’m regularly asked about single-page websites… what they are, who they suit best, and whether they really work.
From a design and marketing perspective, there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. But understanding the strengths (and limitations) of a single-page website design can help you make a decision that works strategically for your business.
What Is a Single-Page Website?
A single-page website (sometimes called a one-page website) is exactly what it sounds like -all your content sits on one scrollable page.
Visitors can navigate sections using anchor links (like “About,” “Services,” or “Contact”), but everything loads within the same page.
They’re clean, simple, and mobile-friendly – which is important when you consider that over 55% of UK website traffic now comes from mobile devices (Statista). For small businesses, this layout can feel modern and efficient, but only when used in the right way.
The Case for a Single-Page Website
A well-planned one-page site can be powerful, especially if you’re:
- Launching a new business or service
 - Showcasing a specific product or event
 - Creating a personal brand or portfolio
 - Working with a tight budget and want to start small

From a marketing perspective, a single-page website design keeps things focused. You control the user journey, and visitors simply scroll through your story in order. That makes it perfect when you want to lead people toward one clear action, such as booking a consultation or filling out an enquiry form.
A Smart Option: Single Page + Blog

If you love the simplicity of a single-page website design but still want to build visibility, there’s a great middle ground – keep your main site on one-page and add a blog page.
The blog acts as your SEO engine and every new post adds a fresh page, new keywords, and content for search engines to index. That means your site can stay clean and focused for visitors, while still growing in authority over time.
It’s a great solution for small businesses who want the best of both worlds, with minimal design upfront, long-term visibility built through content.
⚠️ But Here’s the Catch
The simplicity of a single-page site can also limit your growth.
Because everything lives on one URL, SEO opportunities are reduced. You can’t optimise multiple pages for different keywords, and your long-term content has no-where to grow.
From a marketing standpoint, this matters. Search engines love structure. If your website can’t show depth or relevance through multiple pages, it’s harder to rank competitively over time.
So, while one-page sites are quick to build and look great, they’re not always built for scaling your online visibility.
When a Multi-Page Website Makes More Sense
If your business offers multiple services, sells products, or plans to grow, a multi-page website is the smarter choice.
Why?
Because it lets you:
- Optimise each page for specific SEO keywords
 - Create dedicated service pages that speak directly to each audience
 - Add blogs / articles to regularly refresh your content (a big visibility boost)
 - Track analytics more precisely, understanding what’s performing well

It’s also more user-friendly for visitors who want to jump straight to what matters most to them, without scrolling through everything else.
Building websites for small businesses isn’t just about great design – it’s about creating something that supports how your business grows.
